  • Leaflet for South Korean Victims of Prostitution and Sex Trafficking Abroad Leaflet for South Korean Victims of Prostitution and Sex Trafficking Abroad

With an increasing number of South Korean women falling victim to overseas prostitution and sex trafficking through fake job advertisements and/or debt bondage, WHRIK produced a leaflet to support Korean victims of prostitution and sex trafficking abroad and distributed it to anti-prostitution/sex trafficking organizations and South Korean Embassies and Consulate offices. In this leaflet, we included (1) the definition of prostitution/sex trafficking victims, (2) the trafficking victim identification and protection index developed by the Human Rights Commission of Korea, (3) case studies of victimization, which have been reported in the media, (4) information on how to report this crime in the host country, (5) support services available in South Korea and contact information, including text massage-based counseling services. In 2018, WHRIK updated the previous version of the leaflet by newly adding the examples of coercion and fraud which are used in massage parlor trafficking with a reference of the 2018 Polaris Project Report. For questions and/or requests regarding the leaflet, please contact minkyung@stop.or.kr
