To accompany the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games, various campaigns were held to ensure that it remains a prostitution-free event. In partnership with the Gangwon Association of Women’s Human Rights Counseling Centers and members of the National Association of On-site Counseling Centers, the Chuncheon Giljabi House counseling center for prostituted victims based in Gangwon-do Province held an anti-prostitution campaign under the slogan “Let’s Host the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games without Prostitution and Sexual Violence.” They issued a statement urging the Organizing Committee for the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics Games to be committed to gender equality throughout the event. Gangwon-do Province is where the Olympic games were held. On February 6, the organizations conducted a street campaign in order to raise anti-prostitution awareness during the international sporting event, including receiving a petition in opposition to prostitution and sexual violence and distributing Olympic souvenirs and promotional fliers stating “Both prostitution and sexual violence are serious crimes and violations of human rights.”

During the Olympic and Paraolympic Winter Games, sexual violence counseling centers were operated at four venues near Olympic stadiums in Pyeongchang, Gangneung, and Jeongseon. The counseling centers were open 8-9 hours per day depending on event schedules. Outside business hours, counseling services were accessible in 13 languages through the Danuri Call Center (1577-1366). The sexual violence counseling centers cooperated with the Olympics general counseling center and police to carry out sexual violence prevention activities. Any cases of sexual violence could be referred to the Gangwon Dongbu Sunflower Center for Women and Children, that provide assistance to victims through medical and legal services.
