Men in their twenties each received 5 and 6 year sentences respectively during their first trial in court for forcing prostitution on two teenagers. The accused were charged with forcing prostitution on two teenagers by threatening them to repay their debts, for approximately 4 months from August 2018. The men are also to receive 80 hours of anti-prostitution education and restricted from finding employment at children or youth related organizations for the next 5 years.

“Exploiting teenagers for financial profit is an extremely serious crime; not only is it illegal but deserves severe condemnation,” the department of justice at Daejeon District Court said. In explaining the reason behind the weight of the punishment, they added “a heavy punishment is necessary as profits made by forcing the victims to prostitution amount to 18 million won.”
